Breast cancer is the growth of the cancer cells that occurs in the cells of the breast. Different types of treatment for breast cancer are available these days. Some of the popular treatments used for the cure for breast cancer are given below.

Surgery

Most of the patients suffering from cancer choose surgery as the cure for breast cancer. Some lymphatic nodes are withdrawn from under arm and are observed under the microscope to observe whether there are any cancerous cells present. There is a surgery known as breast conservational surgery which can kill the evolving cancer without removing the breast. Lumpectomy surgery is used to remove tumor along with some normal tissues around it. Partial mastectomy is a surgery used to remove a particular part of breast having cancerous cells along with certain part of the regular tissues surrounding it. Segment mastectomy is a surgery in which lining over the chest muscles may also be removed.

Radiotherapy or radiation therapy

This therapy can be termed as one of the common treatments used for the cure for breast cancer that uses high energy radiations to kill the cells causing cancer or to stop them for growing further. Radiation therapy can be of two main types that include external and internal. In external therapy, a machine is used from outer part of the body for sending radiations towards the cancer. Internal therapy on the other hand involves some radioactive material to be placed near to the cancer inside the body by sealing the radioactive substance in catheters, wires, needles etc. the radiation method used by the doctors is entirely dependent on the cancer stage under which it is being operated.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy can be termed as one of the best treatments used for the cure for breast cancer. In this method, drugs are used to prevent the development of the cells that cause cancer. This can be achieved either by stopping them from dividing or by killing the cancer cells completely. During chemotherapy the drugs are given either orally or they are injected into the muscles. These drugs penetrate into the stream of blood and reach the cancer cells present in the whole body; this method of chemotherapy is known as systemic chemotherapy. In case of breast cancer, the drugs are injected directly into the breast to kill the cancer cells. This method is known as regional chemotherapy. Method of chemotherapy used also is highly dependent on the phase of cancer under consideration.

Hormone therapy

Hormone therapy can also be used for the cure for breast cancer. This treatment either blocks the action of hormones or removes the hormones to stop the expansion of cancerous cells. Hormones can be referred to as the material created by the glands and they circulate in the stream of blood. Some hormones are responsible for causing cancer. In such cases drugs, radiation therapy or surgery is used to block them from working or to lessen the fabrication of these hormones. The estrogen hormone that may cause breast cancer is generated by the ovaries. Ovarian ablation is a treatment that stops the ovaries from producing estrogen.

Initial phases of breast cancer can be cured by therapy with tamoxifen hormone. Women taking this treatment must undergo a pelvic inspection at least once in a year to see for any sign of cancer. In case of an instance of bleeding from the vagina other than the regular menstrual cycle, the patient should report to the doctor as early as possible.
